How to Choose an EAP Provider
Fee for Service or Per Case Model
The organization pays the EAP provider a set fee for each clinical hour of treatment offered or by the individual case. Length of treatment can be more flexible since there isn't a cap. This type of service is often the model chosen by organizations to offer their employees immediate assistance while they continue to determine the feasibility of a more comprehensive program. This is also a way organizations check out the real services delivered by EAPs versus what they are told.
Con
- Confidentiality is limited since access to the service is usually through the Human Resource department.
- This type of program controls costs and limits program utilization.
- A "Fee for Service/Per Case Model" program does not include any proactive or preventative initiatives.
- Utilization rates are low.
Pro
- Definite controlled costs and a less expensive program. Often a good way to try out various EAP service providers to see who really gives the best service and counselling and with whom the company feels they can build a long-term relationship.
- Individual employee problems are not necessarily limited by number of sessions.
