How to Choose an EAP Provider
Capped Service Model
A capped service program limits the number of sessions of counselling the employer will underwrite. The caps usually fall between six to twelve sessions.
Con
- Many problems can be solved in this number of sessions but major life traumas or addiction problems are rarely amenable to or successfully treatable within the capped model.
- These more difficult problems often have to be turned over to community resources thus loosing any proactive or preventative initiative.
- Sometimes the company or service provider will need to play around with the capped system model to get the OK for more sessions. This can potentially compromise confidentiality.
- Again if access to the service is through the Human Resource department confidentiality can be compromised.
- Service is basically reactive, non-preventative, in nature.
Pro
- Costs are basically contained. Usually costs are by the case, through utilization statistics or per employee rate.
- 80% of employee problems will be dealt with effectively through this model.
- A reactive service model.
