How to Choose an EAP Provider
Assessment and Referral Service Model
This program type offers a specific limited number of counselling sessions per employee, primarily for purposes of assessment, with a subsequent effort to refer the employee to a community based service or to a fee for service private practice clinician.
Con
- It is not usually helpful for an employee in distress to meet one clinician for assessment followed by a referral to another clinician for ongoing treatment.
- The further larger reality is that community based services are undergoing severe funding cuts and service demands with the result in ever increasing waiting lists and reductions of services available. Waiting lists of 6 months to a year are the norm. Private practitioners charge anywhere from $65 to $150 per hour.
- There is no control over the quality of service issues. Usually the method to access the counselling services through this model is via the Human Resource department so confidentiality is compromised and utilization rates will be low.
- It's a reactive, non-preventative service.
Pro
- This is a very inexpensive program.
- Total control of the costs.
- Problem gets assessed.
